Every 9 minutes, someone in Canada suffers a stroke.

It is the second most common cause of death in Canada, and those who survive are often left with life-changing disorders—loss of movement, difficulty speaking and more.

Finding ATLANTIS: Save lives by predicting strokes

Currently, risk for stroke is determined by narrowing of the carotid artery, called stenosis. People with arteries that are very narrow are deemed at high risk and prescribed interventions, such as surgery. But stenosis is an incomplete picture of stroke risk. It has poor accuracy, and can lead to unjustified surgeries and unnecessary health care costs. To change this, Dr. Stella Daskalopoulou and her team are developing artificial intelligence-powered software that can provide a more accurate picture of stroke risk. Called ATLANTIS, this project will create a personalized approach to measuring stroke risk.

Support ATLANTIS to ensure fewer people suffer strokes and save lives.
