The MUHC’s 800 volunteers, supported by the MUHC Foundation, are the heart of the hospital.

At the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), there’s a special group of people who bring warmth and compassion to every corner of the hospital. These are the volunteers—over 800 strong—who dedicate their time and energy to ensure that every patient feels welcomed and cared for, and who are supported by the MUHC Foundation.

"We’re not just helping patients; we’re giving them a sense of comfort in an unfamiliar place. It’s incredibly rewarding," says Eva Coluni, a regular volunteer at the MUHC.

From offering a friendly smile to spending time with patients and who need a comforting presence, these volunteers go above and beyond in their roles, embodying the true spirit of holistic care.

Through dedicated funding, the MUHC Foundation ensures that the hospital’s volunteers have all the resources they need to continue their vital work in making patients feel more comfortable and supported through their hospital stay, while enabling health care workers to focus on other elements of care. The volunteers also regularly support the Foundation during our many fundraising events.

“Volunteering is incredibly rewarding because you can see the impact right away. If I can brighten even one person’s day and make their hospital stay a bit easier, then I know I’ve made a difference,” shares Jesse Frija-Gruman, a dedicated hospital volunteer.

Whether they’re helping patients navigate the hospital, serving them coffee/tea and baked goods, or simply being a friendly face in a moment of uncertainty, the volunteers at the MUHC represent the very heart of the hospital and its mission to deliver compassionate patient care—which involves making patients and their families feel at ease during some of their most challenging times.

"The MUHC Foundation is proud to support the volunteers, and we can’t thank them enough for everything they do. They’re an essential aprt of our comunity, not only providing critical support but reminding us that seemingly small gestures make a big difference in people’s lives,” shares Marie-Hélène Laramée, President and CEO of the MUHC Foundation.

The MUHC Foundation recognizes the invaluable contributions of the hospital’s volunteers and is committed to supporting them in every way possible. Together, we’re setting a new standard for compassionate care in Quebec.
