Update: The 11th Annual Raymond James Softball Tournament, held on Saturday, September 21st, raised over $30,000 for the Montreal Chest Institute (MCI) through the MUHC Foundation. These funds will directly benefit patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), the third leading cause of death worldwide. Specifically, funds will support Bronchoscopic Lung Volume Reduction (BLVR), a minimally invasive procedure that helps patients breathe easier without surgery.
Despite a hard-fought game at Pierre-Elliot Trudeau Park, the Raymond James Bulls claimed victory over the MCI Lobes. Over the past 11 years, this tournament has raised more than $330,000 for transformative projects at the MCI, keeping it at the forefront of breathgiving respiratory care and breath-taking research.
The MUHC Foundation extends heartfelt thanks to Raymond James Ltd., the Raymond James Canada Foundation, and everyone who showed their support!
The 10th Annual Raymond James Softball Tournament, organized by the MUHC Foundation to raise funds for the Montreal Chest Institute, took place on September 23rd. The hospital’s softball enthusiasts, ranging from nurses to administrative staff and leading physicians, gathered at Pierre Elliott Trudeau Park to witness the much-anticipated showdown between the two teams: the Raymond James Bulls and the MCI Lobes.
In a surprising twist, this year’s game marked the end of the Bulls’ winning streak, and Lobes fans enthusiastically cheered on their new winning team. Despite the unexpected defeat, both teams were all smiles, expressing their happiness at being able to give back to the MCI and their unwavering commitment to the cause. After all, it’s not just about winning on the softball field; it's about winning in the fight against respiratory diseases.
In total, a staggering $33,435 was raised for the Montreal Chest Institute, a vital institution in the fight against respiratory diseases. The funds from this year’s game are directly supporting the MCI’s Advanced Ambulatory Sleep Program, the ground-breaking initiative that combines AI and data analytics to create tailored care for people living with obstructive sleep apnea. Sleep apnea affects 5.4 million Canadians, and this innovative outpatient program aims to increase accessibility to care and help Montrealers breathe easier.
A day of fantastic weather, high spirits, and remarkable fundraising concluded with complimentary pizza and soda, serving as the ultimate post-game fuel. Filled with sunshine, sportsmanship, and a grand slam victory for the MCI Lobes, The Raymond James Softball Tournament demonstrates that when community comes together, incredible things can happen. Here's to ten years of softball fun and many more to come, all in the name of supporting the incredible Montreal Chest Institute!
