The MUHC’s Department of Medicine and the MUHC Foundation raise a transformative $1M at the 2024 Rising Star in Medicine gala

On June 14th, the 2nd annual Rising Star in Medicine gala took place at Montreal’s Ritz Carlton hotel and raised a transformative $1M to support the Rising Star Program, an inspiring collaboration between the MUHC Foundation and the MUHC’s Department of Medicine, led by Physician-in-Chief Dr. Marc Rodger.

The Rising Star Program is designed to provide brilliant early-career physician scientists with the resources they need for their careers to flourish. Recipients are awarded research funding, as well as training and mentorship from Montreal’s top physician-scientists. It plays a crucial role in attracting the brightest minds in medicine to the MUHC and contributes to Montreal’s reputation of providing world-class, innovative health care to all Quebecers.

The gala was a night of grandiose celebration, uniting health care workers, generous donors, and supporters of the MUHC Foundation to honour the exceptional contributions of the Department of Medicine’s talented residents and physicians. The atmosphere was electric, reflecting a strong sense of excitement for the future of health care and research at the MUHC and its research institute.

Three exciting raffle prizes were given out, all generously donated by the Rising Star in Medicine gala’s Presenting Sponsor, Heritage MD. The prizes included tickets to the 2024 Presidents Cup in the 1873 Club, as well as an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience at a Montreal Canadiens hockey game, and signed memorabilia. Additionally, Birkenstocks Canada generously gifted a pair of their professional footwear to each attendee.

It is with great pride that the MUHC Foundation, in collaboration with the MUHC’s Department of Medicine, presented 12 awards recognizing recipients for their outstanding accomplishments in academic and clinical excellence, teaching and humanism. It was a beautiful celebratory moment highlighting the close-knit nature of the department.
