The Importance of Skills & Simulation
As a leader in education, the MUHC is committed to the continued growth of current and future health care providers.
The promotion of interprofessional partnerships in a positive, engaging and collaborative environment benefits all learners across health professions and through all stages of learning. All health care professions share a common and primary commitment to serving the patient and working toward the ideal of health for all. While each profession has its own focus and role, the scope of health care mandates that health professionals work collaboratively. The complexity of patient care has made the need for collaboration between health professionals essential. If health care providers work as a team, they must practice as a team.
With your help, we can provide them with these opportunities.
Simulation Is a Powerful Tool
The use of simulation provides benefits directly related to improved patient safety and outcomes. The discovery of latent errors and knowledge gaps through simulation has been shown to prevent adverse outcomes and improve care in the hospital setting. Our goal is to provide all learners and employees of the MUHC with easy access to simulation as a tool for education, training, and introduction of new technologies in an efficient and cost-effective manner by creating the MUHC/ RI-MUHC/ McGill Simulation Network.
The creation of a Simulation Network Site will address the learning needs of all health professionals and help:
- Foster the highest quality patient centered care
- Attract and retain strong staff
- Promote a culture of patient safety
- Train educators to teach better through increased supervisor preparedness/ongoing faculty development and shared best practices
- Improve the level and quality of simulation conducted across the network
- Develop a database of cases and scenarios for various simulation types
- Establish liaisons with other professional organizations
- Foster an environment that promotes and facilitates innovation
We Need Your Help.
“Having the time to actually pause and learn from simulations not only gives us the confidence as professionals, but allows us to learn essential lessons. At the end of the day it is all about making sure we provide the best care possible for our patients.”
– Christine Echegaray-Benites, Advanced Practice Nurse
