In partnership with the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), the MUHC Foundation, along with a host of other Montreal foundations, annually recognizes promising researchers through the distribution of research awards.

The MUHC Foundation supported 14 research awards to help fuel research discoveries at the 2019 edition of the Awards Dinner, held on Thursday, October 3, 2019, at Centre Mont-Royal in Montreal.

Geneviève Dubé lost her husband Michel Lessard to leukemia in June 2018. She and her twin teenage sons have raised more than $27,000 for cancer research in his honour. Last night she presented The Michel Lessard Cancer Research Award to Lawrie Shahbazian, a member of Dr. Lucy Gilbert‘s team at the MUHC.

“Our dad couldn’t be saved, but maybe others will be,” said Olivier Lessard, about his family’s commitment to supporting research innovation and discovery.
